| 10/11/08 | Mel Grey and Family Charity No. N/A Family in Need |
Hastings | Hello, I was hoping you could help. I brought one of you Santa's a few weeks ago and when one of your agents told me what they were for I explained I have a disabled daughter, she has mild Cerebral Palsy which effects her left side mainly her left leg she gets very frustrated about this as she falls a lot. The main reason I thought I would email you is my Sister who is 26 has just had a baby boy called Charlie in August, she and her partner and there 5 year old son Jack have had a very tough time since he was born, Jack spent the first three weeks of his life in Brighton Intensive Care Unit where they were told he had severe Cerebral Palsy to the point where he wouldn't hear, see, hold his head up and feed properly. They said his brain is so damaged there was nothing much left to damage they were told to make the decision to withdraw care as this would be kinder as his quality of life wouldn't be much or to continue care, they had made the hard decision to let him go but Charlie decided to hold his own, he was transferred to the Conquest Hospital nearer to home but then had to go back up to Brighton for a operation on his stomach. He then was transferred back to the Conquest, he feeds through a tube that goes through to his tummy, Charlie is on ten lots of medication due to him fitting and being in pain, reflux, and sedation as Charlie does not sleep. lucky if my sister gets 2 hours a night, they cannot give a time to Charlie’s life expectancy, as he could get a cold or infection which could cause him to fit, all this is very stressful for them and the family, I help by having Charlie for the night as my sister needs to have her sleep and to be able to look after both her sons. Charlie has been out of hospital for about 3 weeks in total, has open access to hospital, I have been with them through most of this so my children have been cared for by family while I have been there for them so I feel we could all do with a holiday, to cheer us up after this very difficult time, hope you could help. Many Thanks Melanie Gray. We have given them the holiday home from 26th July 2009 for one week. |

| 16/10/08 | Miss Thompson and Son Charity No. N/A Family in Need |
Bognor Regis | We have decided to give the holiday home for one week from the 8th August after recieving the Following letter and speaking to the family. Dear Sirs I was hoping you could help me with a query I have. Yesterday my Mother and I were in Bognor Regis town centre with my younger brother of 8. We were stopped by one of your representatives (dressed as Superman which was just fab) and he told us about what you do and we purchased a heart shaped key-ring to show our support. We stood chatting as my mother was asking if my younger brother would be entitled to a a break and he advised that we contact you. He was very genuine and wish now I had taken his name as he was extremely helpful, informative and genuinely nice. My query: My younger brother has suffered from severe eczema and anaphalaxia since a baby and this has unfortunately left him having to miss out on everyday things that other children on his age (and adults) take for granted, These being simple things like little food goodies, parties, school parties, field trips with the school, even clothing has to be carefully selected. He misses out on this part of his childhood because and for instance the first and last school event he was given (innocently by a a teacher, although they know his history) a sweet which sent him into shock and had to be rushed to hospital and whilst in the ambulance nearly died. As you can appreciate my mum is always on edge because of these things. Also, her finances are very limited as the conventional medication she used for so many years caused adverse side affects which lead to other problems for Ryan (my brother), My mum then decided to try alternative (chinese) herbal medicine and this has helped significantly although Ryan still suffers badly. Ryan's GP after seeing the results of the alternative medication advised that my mum continue with this, but she doesn't get any financial help with this and has been penalized to any further help because she has chosen alternative rather than conventional thus leaving her short of money and unable to fund ryan with a break or holiday of any sort, actually, some time ago my sister and I shared the cost for Ryan and Mum to go to Paris for two days. My mother is a single parent and Ryans 'so called father' does nothing to support him emotionally or financially, he lives in the West Midlands and has visited Ryan once in the last 4 years. My mother does not know that I will be sending this email, as I don't want to disappoint if the outcome is negative, but I just wanted to know if you would be kind enough to select Ryan for a short break. I cannot stress how deserving this boy is, and how grown-up he is about his illnesses. He has taking teasing from school children about his skin so well, and even the name calling....."fat throat, puffa and jerky" to name a few....Some children can be so cruel. Anyway, I look forward to hearing from you and sincerely hope you can help. Yours faithfully Carla The value of the holiday for that time of year is 750.00 |

| 06/10/08 | Solomon Andall Charity No. N/A PHOTOGRAPH TO VIEW HERE |
Eastbourne | Solomon Andal was diagnosed with bone cancer in January 2008.He has been having extensive chemotherapy treatment for the past nine months with approximately four months left of treatment. Solomon has had three operations. Four months into his chemotherapy he had an operation to remove his tumour which started in the knee and spread to his thigh bone. The operation involved removing all of his knee and most of the thigh bone and replacing these with a prothestics. He is still unable to walk. The hospital said he needs a fitness bike and this will improve his circulation but will also improve his muscle tone strength and mobility of his knee, which will in time enable him to walk again. So we at Share a little love went out and got him a pro fitness bike as his parents have had to give up work to look after him and do not have any spare money to get want he needs. We have also offered them the holiday home for next year. |

Sussex | The Sussex Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (SASBAH) supports over 700 adults and children with spina bifida and / or hydrocephalus. Set up in 1965, we have a great track record of understanding the conditions and making a difference to the lives of people affected. Spina bifida occurs early in pregnancy; it is a defect in the spine, when one or more vertebrae fail to close, leaving a gap that can cause paralysis that makes walking difficult or impossible. Hydrocephalus is caused by excessive cerebro- spinal fluid in the head, which can lead to problems with learning, communicating and co-ordination. SASBAH offers an advisory service, providing support, information and advocacy. Advice is provided on almost anything, finance, benefits, health, accommodation, transport, relationships. Our staff are often life-savers and their intervention can prevent tragic consequences. SASBAH gives financial grants to people when no other help is available. We work hard to help people make the most of their lives, by running social events, a multi disciplinary clinic, family support, youth work, residential breaks and the Sussex Buddy Scheme, which puts people with any disability in touch with a volunteer so that they can get out and about and enjoy life. We have donated a voucher for them to auction at there next fundraising event, the voucher is a day out racing a stock car. |

Peacehaven | Ann founded the ABC Fund back in 1991. Since then she has raised thousands of pounds for disadvantaged children and their families. This may be as a result of illness, bereavement, abuse or poverty. Over the last 6 years she has arranged coach trips in the Summer to various venues. she has paid for the coach, admission fees and provided a picnic for the day. At Christmas we have gone to the pantomime. This year we have 4 pantomimes visits taking around 600 children and their families, each child going home with a present at the end of the performance. We have also made up luxury Christmas hampers for distribution. This is mainly done through schools, the junior schools providing food and/or cash, the senior schools involved with the packing. We have also provided many individual trips and treats for families, all of which are listed on our website www.abcfund.org.uk.
